| Champagne Moment |
 | At a recent home game Colin Hayward was presented with an award by Chairman Allan Highfield. It was for the 'Champagne Moment' of the 2007 season, which occured in a game at Ardleigh when he ran out Jo Bland with a direct hit. His achievement was judged the best by members voting at the AGM but Colin was unable to be there at the time to receive his trophy. | Pre-season nets have been arranged for the benefit of those who like to practice, and hopefully improve, their skills before the serious business begins in May. Eddie has organised some on alternate Sunday afternoons which might suit those who find it difficult to attend in the evening – the first is this weekend from 4pm to 6pm at Brightlingsea Sports Centre. | The Annual General Meeting of Lexden Cricket Club will be held on Tuesday 27th.November 2007 at The Crown public house, Lexden Hill - 8pm start. All members are urged to attend & have their say on how the Club is being run. | The next committee meeting will be held on Tuesday 23rd.October at Allanþs house, 8pm start. This is the first chance to assess the season just ended and the only one before the A.G.M. | Lexden Consolidate In Promotion Year |
| Having been champions of Division 3 in 2006, Lexden finished in a comfortable mid-table position at the end of their first season in Division 2. By losing to table toppers Eight Ash Green in their final game they slipped 2 places to 5th., but were still over a point clear of 6th.placed Great Totham & less than half a point behind Gosfield in 3rd. | Chairman Records His Highest Score |
 | Long-serving Lexden Chairman Allan Highfield achieved a personal triumph on Sunday 23rd. September by scoring 128, his career best. Belying his 50+ years Allan batted through almost the entire innings & in the process enabled Lexden to make 271 for 6 - their highest ever score at home. After the match some of the team joined Allan for a celebratory curry at Planet Asia to round off a perfect day. | Friendly Side Notches First Win |
| Lexden's friendly team, only started up this season, claimed it's first win in the last match of the season. On a lovely sunny afternoon they bowled out Colchester Garrison for 105 then knocked off the runs for the loss of only 3 wickets. Star performer again was Mark Howlett with 50 not out but the bowling & fielding were good to set up the victory. | Barbecue A Great Success |
| Lexden's annual summer barbecue was held on 26th.August & as usual a good time was had by all. Allan Highfield's large garden in Fingringhoe is the perfect venue with its fine views over the Roman River valley. As always it was dry & sunny enabling full use to be made of the grounds. Activities included tennis, cricket, Jenga, a garden darts tournament & a paddling pool. | Maiden century for Mark Howlett |
 | Great Horkesley - Sunday 2nd.September 2007. Revelling in the opportunity to bat at no.4 Mark Howlett recorded his first ever hundred in this friendly. It was a delightful innings & a considerable physical effort as well. He had already kept wicket for 45 overs & started his innings in only the 6th.over. | What A Soggy Start! |
| After that gloriously dry & sunny April, May was rather a damp squib for Lexden. All 3 fixtures at Spring Lane were cancelled due to rain which means that going into June they have yet to play at home. Among the casualties was the game against Shalford, after the away match against the same club had also been rained off. Hopefully there will be a chance to play them in 2008! | Date For Your Diary |
| Sunday 1st.April - no, it's not a joke! Lexden has set aside that day for some pre-season work at the ground in Spring Lane. Tasks will include removing fencing from round the square, erecting practice nets & clearing undergrowth from the boundary edge. We aim to start around 11am & carry on until either the light goes or we get fed up. It is hoped that members will try to come along at some time for a couple of hours or so. | For the first time in many years Lexden will be running a Friendlies XI in 2007 and is looking for fixtures. These will need to be mainly on Saturdays but the odd Sunday could be available. | Lexden Does Well At League Presentation Night |
The P.D.Q.Cars North Essex Cricket League Annual Dinner/Dance/Presentation Night was held on Saturday 3rd.February 2007 at Colne Valley Golf Club. Lexden was among the best represented clubs with 5 playing members and their partners attending. Guest speaker was former Essex & England bowler Mark Ilott who also presented the trophies. | Lexden Cricket Club goes online today as the latest move in the Club’s progression. Webmaster Tom Morgan has done a fantastic job over the past few months designing the site & setting it up despite encountering many difficulties along the way! Anyone who is considering joining the Club can now find out all about it online & there is also a forum where comments can be posted. | Lexden to launch 2nd.XI |
| Lexden Cricket Club will be running a 2nd.XI in 2007. For the first time in many years the playing strength is such that it is necessary to provide additional fixtures outside the league programme. Up to 10 friendly matches will be arranged, mainly on Saturdays, for members who are unable to gain a regular place in the 1st.XI. | The A.G.M. of Lexden Cricket Club was held on Tuesday 5th.December 2006 at The Crown public house in Lexden Road. There was a good turnout of members & reports were presented on various activities within the Club over the previous year. Most officers were re-elected but 2 changes were made. | Lexden Cricket Club capped the most successful season in their history with a 96 run win away to Chappel & Wakes Colne on 17th.September 2006. This was their 10th.win of the season & it ensured that they finished top of Division 3 in the PDQ Cars North Essex Cricket League. They have been runners-up in the past but this is the first time they have ever been Champions. 4 bowlers & 3 batsmen featured in the top 10 for that division, another unique achievement.
