Lexden Cricket Club
A Brief Overview
Lexden Cricket Club was founded in 1938 & for many years played at the King George V field in Clairmont Road, Lexden. Since about 1985 their home ground has been at Spring Lane in the picturesque Colne Valley on the outskirts of Colchester. The river runs along one side of the ground, flooding it occasionally during the winter months. Facilities include a brand new wooden pavilion constructed during the latter part of 2006, ample parking & one of the best squares in the district.

In 1977 Lexden became founder members of the North East Essex Cricket League and still compete in the present-day version. The highest position they have achieved so far is 8th. in Division One in both 1978 & 1986 but their most successful season was 2006 when they were champions of Division Three. Between 1982 & 1994 Lexden ran a second team & even briefly a third team. During that period there were also 4 colts teams & many players have progressed to higher grades of cricket having learnt the game with Lexden. In 1989 the Under 17's won the Trevor Bailey Shield, a knockout competition involving sides from all over Essex. Lexden players have won 4 league batting awards & 3 for bowling including the record for most wickets ever in a season.

Various social events are arranged during the year including a golf day in May, a mid-summer barbecue and an end of season dinner. Lexden operates on a pay as you play basis with no membership fee so anyone looking for a club does not have to make a financial commitment. Lexden is an ambitious club which is looking to expand & progress and welcomes enquiries from potential new players.
